Reliance Jio Outpaces Airtel In Active Subscriber Base Amid 5G Rollout

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. added the highest number of active users in January, as a 5G-induced churn in India’s telecom industry deepened.
About 806 million Indians now have access to broadband internet over the phone.
The total number of wireless subscribers in India rose by 0.01% month-on-month to 1,143.02 million in January 2023, according to TRAI data.
That’s still 25 million less than the figures from November 2021, when telecom operators were affected by a tariff hike.
Still, there is visible churn in the market.
"We expect Airtel and Jio’s market-share gains to accelerate at Vodafone Idea’s expense, especially among premium subscribers," driven by pan-India 5G rollouts, Kotak Institutional Equities said in an April 3 note.
