North India cold wave: IMD issues orange alert, visibility hits zero in Agra, Lucknow schools extend breaks

As north India continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions, visibility took a major hit in cities such as Chandigarh and Agra.
Dense to very dense fog conditions over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar (are likely) during the next 48 hours and decrease in intensity and distribution thereafter," the IMD said in a statement.
"Around 335 trains have been delayed, 88 cancelled, 31 diverted and 33 short terminated due to foggy weather," a railway official said.
Earlier, the Jharkhand government on Sunday issued a notice to close both government and private schools for students of class KG to class VII in the state till January 14.
"In view of the cold wave conditions, schools in Jharkhand will remain closed for students from KG to standard 5 till January 14 and regular classes will resume from January 16," the Government said in the notice.
A cold day is when the minimum temperature is less than or equal to 10 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is at least 4.5 notches below normal.
