    What’s the reason for central banks’ recent love for gold

    Gold There have been multiple news items on central banks buying gold in large quantity.
    Top 10 central banks in terms of holding gold reserves (Source: World Gold Council) We have also noted above that central banks were net sellers of gold from 2002 to 2008 and then net buyers from thereon.
    In the period 2009 to 2022, central banks have bought 5,674.6 tonnes of gold which means 18 percent of the total gold holdings of central banks has come in the last 15 years.
    What does this gold buying by central banks signal for the world economy?
    The central banks, which act as guardians of economic and financial stability, are investing increasingly in gold.
    This is ironical as we often see central bankers telling public not to invest in gold but in financial assets as it helps in higher circulation of money.
