This action is in response to allegations of "maligning" the office of the Bengal governor, as reported by the news agency PTI citing an official. The move follows a letter from Bengal governor C V Ananda Bose to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), requesting their removal. Mukherjee is currently leading the Special Enquiry Team investigating a molestation charge against Bose by a former Raj Bhavan staffer.
