'Bring back the British Empire': outrage after debate on UK news channels

The death of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this month sent an outpouring of grief around the world. But the death of Britain's longest-serving monarch also brought back memories of the monarchy in many countries. Now, a debate has been sparked on social media after the 'British Empire' praised a panelist from the UK's Sky News network.

James Morrow, political editor of the Daily Telegraph, and another British journalist and author - Rowan Dean - are on the committee. Morrow said in the now-widely-circulated video, "Abdication is a catastrophic event for many nations, resulting in more bloodshed, violence and chaos than the empire itself has caused."

At this point, Rowan Dean came in and said, “I want to talk about that too. It's crazy to me that we teach people that empire is bad. I am for. Let's start a new movement - "Bring back the British Empire". Bring it back. You look at countries like Zimbabwe. You look at countries like Uganda...it's been ruined. As James said - disaster.

"You look at countries like India and Pakistan - they've been struggling since colonial times. It's fair to say that something bad has happened. Sure, there are bad things that happened, but look at the constitution, the foundation. Look at the difference that has happened since the British Empire left,” he added. Calling the British Empire "the age of civilization", Morrow says, "no other European empire created so many prosperous nations".
